Biopharmaceuticals have transformed the pharmaceutical industry since their origin in the 1970s. Today, biotechnology drugs account for 10%-15% of sales of total pharmaceutical products. Biosimilars or biogenerics, the generic versions of branded biopharmaceuticals, are expected to be a key growth area over the next several years because of the expiration of patents for important biopharmaceuticals. In addition to biosimilars, proprietary biopharmaceuticals such as monoclonal antibodies are increasingly playing a major role in the treatment of patients with chronic and life threatening diseases.
Lentigen is applying its core lentiviral vector technology to the development of production methods for a range of proteins and antibodies. These include erythropoietin for the treatment of anemia, Factor VIII for the treatment of Hemophilia A and recombinant diagnostic anti-anthrax antibodies for the US Army.
