Lentigen is developing a novel virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine manufacturing platform using its LentiMax™ Lentiviral vector (LV) platform technology. LentiVax™ is a cost-effective alternative to conventional vaccine manufacturing methods that allows for rapid production of vaccines in mammalian cell lines using the highly efficient gene-delivery properties of LVs. The present focus of the program is to develop an influenza VLP vaccine targeted to pandemic (avian) and seasonal Influenza (Flu).
LentiVax™ has several significant advantages over traditional vaccine manufacturing methods:
- Instantaneous high copy number gene delivery without need for gene amplification, leading to robust production yields
- No eggs are needed, which reduces labor and material costs, increases safety, and eliminates the need for an inactivation step
- Overall timeframe is reduced significantly, as commercial scale product could be produced in less than 4 months and in as little as 5 weeks
- Reduced development and production time frame reduces the potential for the production of mismatched or ineffective vaccines
- Manufacturing process is easily scalable and Lentigen has non-provisional patents covering the process
